Evaluation of adaptive measures to climate change in the tourism sector of the Atlantic coast

To carry out a cost-benefit analysis of alternative management measures for adapting the tourism sector to climate change in the Atlantic coast. For this, we propose an original and integrative stepwise methodology, which includes ecological assessment and socio-economic valuation of the different alternatives.
Sectors of Activity:
Maritime and coastal tourism
Funding Options:
Objective:
To achieve equilibrium between the conservation and protection of the marine environment and the development of the tourism sector in the Atlantic coast through the assessment of alternative management measures (cost-benefit analysis).
Beneficiaries:
Both marine environment and tourism sector
Main activities:

To establish the theoretical framework of the project

  1.  Describe and map main activities of maritime and coastal tourism sector
  2.  Characterization of pressure induced by maritime and coastal tourism sector
  3.  Description of the state or the changes on biophysical components
  4.  Set environmental objectives
  5. Propose alternative management measures to adapt to climate change in the tourism sector
  6.  Estimate social benefits of the possible management alternatives by means of a stated preference technique
  7. Estimate costs of the possible management alternatives
  8. Carry out a cost-benefit analysis of the possible management alternatives
  9. Recommendations on the basis of the obtained results
  10. Dissemination
Main deliverables:
  1. Analysis of the current situation of the maritime and coastal tourism sector in the Atlantic coast as well as its impacts on marine ecosystems
  2. Socio-economic valuation of alternative management measures to adapt to climate change in the tourism sector
  3. Cost-benefit analysis of alternative management measures and recommendations for policy
