UK Atlantic Strategy Workshop - Marine Energy: A Driver of the Atlantic Economy
Sponsored by Lesley Griffiths AM, Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs
Background
Blue growth has vast potential in the UK, both in creating jobs and contributing to economic development. Through the EU’s Atlantic Action Plan there are funding and collaboration opportunities for UK organisations in traditional sectors such as fisheries and tourism, but also in emerging sectors, such as marine renewables.
Workshop
Following on from national events hosted in London and Liverpool, the Welsh Government is hosting a workshop in partnership with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), the Commission’s Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME), the UK Government Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Support Team for the Atlantic Action Plan.
Why attend?
The aim of the event is to showcase flagship developments and highlight the potential of the marine energy sector in invigorating coastal economies on the Atlantic seaboard by creating skilled jobs and growth. It will provide a forum for exchanging experiences, ideas and best practice, and to promote cross-border and transnational co-operation. Speakers will include the Welsh Government Cabinet Secretaries responsible for the sector as well as representatives from the European Commission, the UK Government and the industry.
