20th anniversary of Atlantic Cities at the European Week of Cities and Regions

In the framework of Atlantic Cities’ 20th anniversary, the network and its members will hold several online workshops during the European Week of Cities and Regions.

On 13th October 2020 from 4.30 p.m. to 6 p.m., a special workshop will be focused on the “20 years of Atlantic Cities: Territorial Cooperation and the Urban Agenda” to assess the work carried out over the past two decades within the framework of territorial cooperation and the development of the urban agenda in order to improve the life quality of citizens. This seminar will count with our vice-presidencies, Santander, and Gijón, Kieran Mc Carthy (Member of Cork City Council, and member of the European Committee of the Regions) and an alumna of the Atlantic Futures’ programme as Atlantic Keynote Speaker.

The Atlantic Cities president, Viana do Castelo will discuss with the European Commission about the future of the Atlantic Maritime Strategy and co-present with Cork the Playful Paradigm to re-think cities.

Inside Lisbon events as Europe’s Green Capital, Atlantic cities would like. to highlight these seminars: The official opening of the 2020 EU Green Week that will focus on global biodiversity, and discuss solutions for a biodiverse and equitable world; the #territorialdata: data journalism; and a discussion on  COVID-19 and Future Cohesion Policy: the role of local authorities that will present the emergency measures taken locally and the support provided by the European Union through Cohesion Policy. Moreover,  Lisbon and La Rochelle, will showcase their solutions for Financing the green transition of cities

Cork will also take part at the discussions around the role of Regions and cities as a driving force towards a renewed European Research Area, while Gijón will gather insights and present inspiring projects on Cohesion 2.0 in education and employment, and A Coruña will take part at the  Handbook to boost your urban strategy presentation, that aims to address key challenges in the process of strategy-making and offers methodological support to cities, managing authorities and relevant stakeholders involved in the design and implementation of urban strategies under cohesion policy.

Last but not least, the AYCH project will also count with 2 Workshops: Youth Cooperation in the Atlantic Area and AYCH “NEW WORLD EUROPE”  on innovative AYCH methodology tools.
