EFSA

The Authority has access to substantial in-house scientific expertise and is expecting to employ at least 460 people at the end of 2010, with a budget amounting to EUR 73 million entirely funded by the European Union. Although EFSA does not fund research of its own, it will likely be able to access such funding as specific needs are demonstrated. It will also work closely with DG Research and will use its own funds to command short term studies as specific needs arise. The financial resources will be used in a number of areas covering science, communications, institutional relations and administration. Networking and collaboration is also important as the Authority is committed to finding leading experts in a wide range of food-related scientific fields. Experts from all over Europe are engaged in the Authority’s comprehensive work programme, with annual and multi-annual components, some of which will require the use of external scientific services.
